History Of Jerusalem (Short Video)

 


The city of Jerusalem is very sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims alike. It is also called Bait ul Muqaddas and Al-Quds. The first qiblah of the Muslims is the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.
According to archaeologists, there was a human population in Jerusalem even 7,000 years ago. as such, it is one of the oldest cities in the world.

1000 years BC: The Prophet David (peace be upon him) conquered the city and made it the capital of his government.

960 BC:  Hazrat Sulaiman (as), the son of Hazrat Dawood (as), built a temple called the Temple of Solomon.
589 BC: Bakht Nasr destroyed the city, exiled the Jews, and set fire to the Temple of Solomon.
539 BC: The Achaemenid ruler Cyrus the Great captured Jerusalem and allowed the Jews to return to the city.
30 AD: The Roman soldiers crucified Jesus Christ.
638 AD: During the caliphate of Hazrat Omar Farooq, the Muslims conquered Jerusalem.
691 AD: The Umayyad ruler Abdul Malik built the Dome of the Rock.
1099 AD: The Christian Crusaders captured the city.
1187: Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi defeated the Crusaders and drove them out of the city.
1229: Frederick II captured Jerusalem without a fight.
1244: The city came under the control of the Muslims again.

1517: Sultan Salim I annexed Jerusalem to the Ottoman Empire.
1917: British General Alan B. defeated the Ottomans and entered the city.
1947: The United Nations divided the city into Palestinian and Jewish parts.
1948: Israel declared independence, and the city was divided into Israel and Jordan.
As a result of the Arab War in 1967, both parts were occupied by Israel.
