Progress does not stand still, and in recent years mankind
has invented many things that are not yet known everywhere. The creation of
most of them brings us very close to the world of the future, which is shown in
science fiction films. Let's figure out which of these inventions will very
soon have an impact on our lives.
Solar thermal fuel
One of the main reasons why humanity has not yet fully
switched to the use of solar energy is the high cost and low efficiency of its
long-term storage. Nevertheless, it would be foolish to refuse from this
environmentally friendly and capacious source of meeting all the needs of
earthlings, so Swedish scientists took up the solution to this problem.
They soon succeeded in inventing a special
liquid called solar thermal fuel. This substance is able to hold and store
solar energy inside itself unchanged. The innovative fuel contains nitrogen,
hydrogen and carbon. When the light rays strike the molecules of the elements,
they capture solar energy and form an isomer - a storage facility with a
20-year shelf life.
Wood that does not burn in fire
Despite the environmental friendliness and positive
properties of such a building material as wood, its use is associated with many
negative aspects. Massive deforestation, for example, is damaging the
environment. In addition, buildings made of wood are characterized by a high
fire hazard.
To solve the above problems, Chinese scientists have created
a synthetic tree. The resulting material very successfully imitates wood, but
at the same time it does not burn, does not collapse under the influence of
water, acids and other aggressive factors.
Multifunctional airgel
All means are good in the fight for a clean environment.
Thinking about how to recycle the ubiquitous plastic that has flooded both
water and land, scientists have invented a multifunctional airgel. The
inventors note that to create this amazing material, they worked with plastic,
which has already been recycled many times, which means it was doomed to be
stored in a landfill.
From one bottle thrown into the trash, you can
get a layer of airgel the size of an A4 sheet. This flexible, porous and very
lightweight material is extremely durable. It can be used as a heat or
waterproofing agent, as well as a technical sorbent for air and water. It is
possible that soon, with the help of the once toxic plastic waste, we will be
able to cleanse the planet of the substances that have polluted it.
Thought-guided wheelchair
Not so long ago, a graduate of the Novosibirsk State Technological
University presented his invention to the world - a wheelchair controlled by
the power of thought. The device is designed specifically for completely
paralyzed people who can only breathe and think on their own.
Not only does the device quite deftly move with a load on
sidewalks and asphalt, it can also independently lower the owner down stairs or
climb hills. This feature is available thanks to the track-type sidecar design.
Metal 3D printers
3D printers have appeared for a long time, but for a very
long time it were not possible to use anything other than plastic as ink for
them. Finally, humanity made a breakthrough and invented printers that work
with metal.
It is assumed that in the future, these devices
will be mainly used for printing metal elements of various mechanisms. Soon,
manufacturers will not need to maintain warehouses littered with parts, and
buyers will bypass several shops to buy the desired product, because any of
them can now be printed in real time.
